Why live in Angel?

Angel lies close to Upper Street, one of the most popular and iconic locations in the north of London. As one of the foremost estate agents in Angel, we know better than most just how popular this area has become both to buy and rent in recent years.

The area takes its name from the Angel Inn, which stands on the corner of Islington Road and Pentonville Road. This Grade II listed building started out as a hotel and is currently used as offices by several companies. It also lends its name to Angel tube station, just across the road. The station is on the Northern Line, just one stop to Kings Cross and three to Bank Station in the city centre.

Angel has a unique buzz. Despite being only a 30-minute walk from the City, the whole area has an unmistakable “village” feel.

Things to do in Angel

Once regarded as a standard shopping area, Angel has developed a distinctive personality in recent years, with plenty of things to do for people of all ages. The Almeida Theatre is a major draw for residents and often hosts plays that go on to be staged in the West End. There’s also Sadler’s Wells on Rosebery Avenue, which is one of the world’s most celebrated dance venues.

Music lovers will appreciate the proximity of the O2 Academy Islington, and of course, there’s a wealth of things to experience in Central London itself, which is just a few miles away. For example, the London Dungeon and SEA LIFE Aquarium are both within walking distance, and some of the capital’s best shopping streets are a short journey by train.

Add this to the considerable number of pubs, restaurants and bars in the area, and you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to an evening (or day) out with friends.

Property in Angel

Angel has an interesting blend of historic traditional townhouses, fashionable post-industrial redevelopments, and new builds for sale. These include some converted warehouses and canal side properties that have to be seen to be believed.

If you’re a fan of modern living, some of the recent developments are bound to be of interest. ISQ on Upper Street is a great example, with penthouses offering impressive views over the city. As you might expect, these sought-after residences have great facilities, such as 24-hour concierges and gyms.

As for properties with period personality, the Georgian and Victorian terraces offer expansive living space and plenty of original features, and the converted industrial buildings often have exposed metal beams and brickwork. Although properties are frequently in the millions, it is possible to get a stylish apartment for less, particularly if you search further away from the station.

If you think a move to “London’s Village” could be the thing for you, we are one of the favoured estate and letting agents by hundreds of happy residents, so we would love to hear from you.
