About Highbury
Nestled within the vibrant urban landscape of London, the historic district of Highbury has a blend of charm, convenience, and community, making it a great residential area for families and young professionals. Highbury has cultural experiences, great places to eat, and diverse shopping.
Highbury’s crowning jewel is Highbury Fields. Spanning an expansive 29 acres, it is the largest open space in the borough of Islington. Here, residents can unwind, exercise, and connect with nature. But Highbury Fields is not just a picturesque backdrop but also a recreational activity hub. From strolls and picnics on the lush lawns to invigorating workouts at the outdoor gym, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Central to the attraction of Highbury Fields is the Highbury Leisure Centre. This beloved facility is a hub of plenty of activities with a 25-metre six-lane pool, giving a refreshing escape for swimmers of all ages and abilities. If you’re looking for a leisurely dip or a workout, the Highbury Leisure Centre has an inviting sanctuary for swimmers, further improving the area’s appeal.
Property in Highbury
The transformation of Highbury from a historic football ground to a thriving residential hub showcases the evolution of urban spaces in London. Formerly the stomping ground of Arsenal Football Club, the iconic Highbury stadium made way for progress in 2006, as the team relocated to the Emirates Stadium nearby. Rather than fading into obscurity, Highbury embraced its past while embracing a new future.
Preserving two of the stadium’s main stands as listed buildings demonstrates respect for the area’s heritage. These architectural relics now stand as symbols of a bygone era, repurposed into luxurious apartment blocks that attract discerning residents who look for history and modernity. Residing within these hallowed grounds adds an exclusivity to the neighbourhood, making it a coveted address if you appreciate prestige and comfort.
For those with more modest means, the area also has traditional terraced homes for sale, each bearing the hallmark of Victorian and Georgian architecture. These properties give a glimpse into the past while being cosy, character-filled living spaces for families and singles. Additionally, the area continues to evolve with several new developments, giving contemporary living options to cater to tastes, preferences, and budgets.
As one of the most trusted estate agents in Highbury, we can offer expert guidance to those considering a move to Highbury. We specialise in matching buyers and tenants with their ideal properties. If you aspire to reside within the storied confines of the former stadium or seek a more traditional property, our dedicated team is here to assist you every step. Reach out to our knowledgeable letting agents today to start on your journey towards calling Highbury home.
Things to do in Highbury
Of course, one of Highbury’s main draws (or at least for football fanatics) is the closeness to Emirates Stadium. Keen Arsenal supporters can stroll there in just a few minutes, so they’ll never have to miss a game.
Rest assured, though, there’s more to this area than just football. While it’s not as lively as neighbouring Islington, it offers a pleasantly laid-back atmosphere, which sometimes feels a million miles from the bustle of Central London. Highbury Fields is excellent for kids, with an adventure playground to enjoy, and there are several excellent pubs and restaurants. The Lamb on Holloway Road is a firm favourite with locals, as is Highbury Library, which is a chic, stylish bar.
There are some great independent shops, which adds to Highbury’s ‘village’ ambience. Expect to find everything you need on your doorstep, including fruit and veg stores, a fromagerie, and a bookshop with a licenced bar.
