Living Near the Best Primary Schools in and Around Holloway: A Catchment Area Guide

There are several excellent primary schools in Holloway, which is partly why the area is so popular with families. Here’s a guide to some of the best schools, and their catchment areas.

Holloway Primary Schools – A Guide

William Tyndale Primary School

School details:

Situated on Upper Street, N1 2GG, William Tyndale is one of the most highly regarded schools in the area. It was awarded ‘outstanding’ in its most recent Ofsted report, and all admissions are handled by the local council.

Catchment area:

William Tyndale Primary lies just south of Holloway, so if you want to send your child to this school, explore the area around Highbury & Islington tube station. The streets surrounding Highbury Station Road have plenty of modern houses and apartments on offer, or alternatively, search around Highbury Corner or Holloway Road. Expect to pay in the region of £600,000 for a two-bedroomed apartment, up to £1.5 to £2 million for a larger house.

Grafton Primary School

School details:

Grafton Primary School is one of Holloway’s most popular schools. It has around 500 students (so is larger than average), and was given ‘outstanding’ in its last Ofsted report. You’ll find it on Eburne Road (which is conveniently close to the A1) and admissions are taken care of by the local council.

Catchment area:

The streets around Eburne Road offer great value for money, with apartments going for around £400,000 upwards. Seven Sisters Road is a particularly good location to consider if you’re searching for something reasonably priced. The properties around Bennett Park are another appealing option; and if you’re looking for a grander townhouse, the Georgian terraces on Windsor Road are ideal.

Yerbury Primary School

School details:

You’ll find this sought-after school on Foxham Road, near Foxham Gardens. All admissions are coordinated via Islington council, and there are currently about 450 students. As you might imagine, Ofsted gave the school an ‘outstanding’ rating at their most recent inspection.

Catchment area:

Foxham Road is a highly desirable part of Holloway, with its elegant townhouses fetching around £1.5 million upwards. The same can be said of neighbouring roads, such as Tytherton Road, where the Victorian terraces are priced similarly. There are, however, some cheaper options on the market. Many of the local properties are sub-divided to create attractive period apartments, which are available for around £500,000 (for a two-bedroomed flat).

St John’s Upper Holloway C.E Primary School

School details:

St John’s Upper Holloway Primary School was awarded ‘good’ at its most recent Ofsted, with more students achieving expected levels in literacy and maths than the national average. It’s a voluntary-aided faith school, and as such, admissions are all handled internally, rather than through the council.

Catchment area:

This school is situated on Pemberton Gardens, and there are some excellently priced apartments and houses in this area. For example, on the section of Holloway Road that’s closest to the school, you can find a modern apartment for £400,000 upwards, and there are also some flats around St John’s Grove that offer terrific value for money.
